Detailed planning consent has been secured for a 100% social housing retrofit of a Victorian hostel, to provide 31 self-contained homes. The Westminster City Council led scheme will deliver vitally needed temporary accommodation in the heart of Pimlico. The project focuses on creating generous, high quality, family-focused homes. Located in a Conservation Area, externally, the building will be sensitively renovated with entrances altered to provide step free access. Internally, the building will be transformed with access gantries serving dual aspect homes. The lower ground and ground floors will be transformed into 7 maisonettes. All homes will face towards landscaped courtyard that will encourage integration with nature and foster social interaction.
 

Extensive consultation and a careful analysis of existing Temporary Accommodation in the Borough, has help shape and inform the design promoting a shared sense of community. The existing building will be thermally upgraded and fossil fuel free, minimising both operational carbon and tenant energy costs. This innovative project strikes a balance between celebrating Westminster’s architectural heritage, net-zero commitments and delivering high quality homes, in a city centre location.
