London Stock Exchange Group

Carter Gregson Gray are leading the design of the deep retrofit and extension of King Edward Court, on behalf of Oxford Properties, the detailed planning application for which has been consented by The City of London. The 245,000 square foot office building, originally developed by a Stanhope / Mitsubishi joint venture, was completed at the turn of the millennium to the design of Eric Parry Architects with Sheppard Robson. King Edward Court, is composed as a series villas overlooking Paternoster Square, with the larger of the two ‘muscular’ Portland Stone frontages rising atop a colonnade designed by the Paternoster estate masterplanner Sir William Whitfield.

King Edward Court has been home to the London Stock Exchange for over twenty years, who will return following the works having signed a long-term lease agreement with Oxford Properties and Hines, to make King Edward Court the global headquarters of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).
The deep retrofit proposes sensitive interventions throughout the headquarters to celebrate the ceremonial activities such as Market Opening and Stock Launch events, broadcasting these events to visitors within Paternoster Square via a new double height event space overlooking the Square.

The main entrance to Paternoster Square will be relocated to create a generous double height entrance, beyond which two atria will flood the ground floor with natural light. New feature stairs and increased passenger lift provision will enhance the internal circulation to create a vibrant accessible workplace for LSEG supported by high quality end of trip facilities. Balconies will be added to the south elevation, with an expansive and generously planted roof terrace replacing existing plant enclosures at 6th floor benefiting from extraordinary views of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Harry Knibb, Vice President, Development (Europe), Oxford Properties said:
“This agreement marks the culmination of nearly three years of collaboration and design development with Carter Gregson Gray, the wider team and LSEG and validates our conviction that high quality, sustainable, amenity rich and well located London offices secure the very best tenants.”
