Albion Bridge, Canada Water
Our vision for the new Albion bridge celebrates the history of the former docks, and offers the community and visitors alike an opportunity to stop and dwell momentarily, take in the transformation of the area, and enjoy the nature and ecology of Canada Water and the Albion Channel.
The concept sought to respond to two important characteristics of the context:
First, the bridge springs from the original granite dock edge constructed in the late 19th Century, much of which remains in place but rests uncelebrated within the existing landscape. Second, the form and configuration of the bridge is composed with a ‘lightness of touch’, to enhance your ability to experience the water beneath your feet.
Conscientiously organic in form, the elegant bridge comprises a gently arched and tapering vault which traverses the waterway, whilst transparent amenity decks extend into and from Albion Channel to provide playful spaces where you may dwell, take in the existing and emerging context and enjoy the tranquillity of Canada Water.
